Pseudo-Learning Community
I read an older post on “Blogging and Originality” put forth by Jennifer Macaulay, a recent grad student responding to Rachel Singer Gordon’s Oroberosity on The Liminal Librarian (a blog aimed at new/transitioning library professionals).
The issue seems to be: Does the redundancy on the more well-known library blogs (i.e. “lack of originality”) mean we are spending too much time reading/re-reading thoughts/ideas (and perhaps feeding the self-importance of these bloggers)?
As for me, I find that reading the various takes on the issues that we face as professionals in the blogs of other library professionals (redundant or not) provides me with the psuedo-professional support group/learning community, that I need (working as I do, as the library media specialist in a school district of “one”). The comments (and opportunity to comment) simulate the discourse that I miss (away from regular academia).
